Leif’s take: London chic meets Transylvania. This 34-room hotel, one of Romania’s most surprising boutique hotels, offers stark, giant, stylish rooms with zebra-print chairs and framed fashion prints. Jet-setting Muresianos hang in the ground-floor restaurant and bar (which projects key football games onto a blank wall). There’s a fitness center with Jacuzzi and a glass-roofed pool.

Continental Hotel

Web info: Featured in each room, among other amenities, are non smoking rooms, air conditioning, bathrobes, daily newspaper, desk, hair dryer. For the comfort and convenience of guests, you’ll also find executive floor, elevator, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning, meeting facilities , restaurant on-site.

Leif’s take: This business hotel has seen better days. Walk-ins and phone reservations really take it on the chin, price-wise. Online reservations will usually win the best deal.

Leif’s take: Dead-center with decent rooms overlooking the square. Renovated rooms have cable internet. Call ahead to schedule your arrival as it’s sometimes unstaffed.

Hostels

MS Hostel

Web info: Our hostel waits for its guests with 4 separate rooms to suit every situation – from double bed rooms to four-bed rooms. Beside the neat bedclothes and the clean common bathroom we offer you a friendly and enthusiastic hostel staff too. The accommodation is only 30 meters away from the main center of the town. Free internet access, tea and coffee waits for the guests. We can assure beds for 12 people, but only with anticipatory booking (by phone or e-mail), therefore we have no permanent reception.

Leif’s take: Superbly central, this 20-bed hostel is often unstaffed, so call ahead. Enter and cross the courtyard to the left-side door. No breakfast, but there’s cafes just downstairs.

Leif’s take: Possibly where distant cousin Elvis Habsburg was exiled for his suggestive hip-shaking, this playful eight-room guesthouse mixes a bit of green Vegas garishness and Austrian tradition – breakfasts are huge and superb. Go past the citadel and turn right at Str AL Papui Ilarian.
