Three stars

Hotel Casa Luxemburg

Web info: Every room in the hotel offers guests non smoking rooms, television, bathtub, shower, mini bar. Also to be found at the hotel are room service 24hr, shops, bar/pub, meeting facilities , safety deposit boxes, business center.

Leif’s take: It’s a little dormy, but this seven-room job overlooks the Evangelical Church and Piata Mica. Recent upgrades include panel TVs and better than average wood furniture.

Imparatul Romanilor

Web info: Only close to the city center and only 10 km (6 miles) away from the airport, Imparatul Romanilor Hotel Sibiu offers an excellent location With 175 rooms, this property contains all the amenities and services you would expect from a 3-star hotel. Guests seeking exercise or leisure will be pleased to find gym/fitness facilities, sauna at the hotel.

Leif’s take: Inside the green-tea exteriors, this hotel (founded in 1555 as a restaurant, rebuilt in 1985) seems to be a fussy, burgundy and gold homage to Louis XIV at first glance, but nicks and scuffs reveal that it’s disappointingly maintained. Cosmetic improvements include monogrammed carpets and gold fixtures in the tiny bathrooms.

Hotel Roberts

Two stars

Hotel 11 Euro

Web info: The hotel consists of 11 rooms, a restaurant, a night club and a guarded parking lot in the inner courtyard. Our hotel is located in a town wich seems to be forgotten by time, called Sibiu, situated in the Transylvania region in Romania. The hotel consists of 11 rooms, a restaurant, a night club and a guarded parking lot in the inner courtyard. Each room is decorated in a different style and to a high standard. We put at your disposal a bedroom decorated in a rustic style, a royal bedroom and some modern bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with 1 or 2 beds, a television set, a phone, shower and they are located on 2 levels of the building.

Leif’s take: The name suggests a dubious grasp on math, no matter the day’s exchange rate. This 35-room hotel (a former clothing factory) is slightly stranded, about 500m northwest of the center, but has perfectly passable, if cheap rooms. Second-floor rooms have the best views. Only the business class rooms have wi-fi.

Silva Hotel

Web info: Each of the 42 rooms at this 2-star hotel have all the comforts and conveniences of home.

Leif’s take: The Silva is a chalet-style hotel overlooking green Sub Airini Park. Rooms are modern – about half have balconies – and parking is free, but it’s a long slog from the center.

Hotel Sonna

Web info: Each room includes air conditioning, hair dryer, ironing board, bathtub, shower. Guests will enjoy the hotel’s excellent facilities and services including room service 24hr, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning, meeting facilities, restaurant, hotel/airport transfer, tours.

Hostel La Padre

Secret Transylvania

Web info: (Cisnadioara property) Our inclusive accommodation is housed within two pretty Traditional Saxon Village Houses. There are four units each containing a large double bedroom, en-suite bathroom and separate seating area. (Sibiu Property) Situated in a pretty courtyard in the heart of Sibiu (European City of Culture 2007) this apartment is an ideal location to base a Transylvanian holiday from. The apartment sleeps 2/4 and boasts Cable T.V, Dishwasher and Washing Machine.

Felinarul Hostel

Web info: Come and rest in our Transylvanian nest, Sibiu’s only boutique-style hostel and every day you can enjoy our organic breakfast for free. Owned and run by a Romanian/Irish couple, it promises a friendly welcome. The old house has been renovated with great attention to detail, with a mix of vintage Romanian furniture and crafts alongside modern facilities. The intimate cobblestone courtyard is a quiet oasis of calm in the heart of the old town, where customers and friends can hang out in the shade and sip a beer or glass of wine. The hostel also has chill-out zone, complete with library. An organic home-made breakfast is served each morning free of charge.

Leif’s take: A 24-bed sanctuary, roughly mid-way between the train station and the center. The Romanian-Irish husband and wife team have put a lot of thought into the design, including tasteful German, Hungarian and Romania influences. The (included) organic breakfast is a nice touch. On Thursdays they whip up a Transylvanian Goulash, served with a palate-sterilising shot of tuica, naturally. The cafe (which serves only hostel guests) delivers what may be the best cheeseburger in Eastern Europe, among many other excellent dishes.

Old Town Hostel

Web info: The hostel is located in the heart of the historical centre, in Piata Mica (“Little Square”), the oldest and most romantic of Sibiu squares, in a 450 year old building with Renaissance style arcades, at the first floor above the Pharmacy Museum.

Leif’s take: This simple hostel, housed in a 450-year old building, has the most atmospheric location in Sibiu. Dorms are better than the private room (which has four beds and no window). No breakfast.

Sibiu Travelers Hostel

Web info: Our basic idea: giving you shelter in most comfortable, friendly way and making you feel welcome & at home, giving you a nice (included) breakfast and providing you a lot of free services for a real low price.

Leif’s take: This is a great property, with free laundry, internet, tea/coffee and great beds, but unfortunately it is not a great location, behind the rail station, so roughly a 20 minute walk from the center.
