Tulcea to Sulina
The Sulina channel is the shortest in the Danube (63.7km from Tulcea to Sulina). The Navrom’s ferry’s first stop is at Partizani, from where fishermen make themselves available for rowboat outings to the three lakes to the north: Tataru, Lung and Mester.
Next stop is Maliuc, where Hotel Maliuc sits directly across from the ferry stop, offering home cooking and rowboat tours and a camp ground with space for 80 people. North of Maliuc is Lake Furtuna, a riot of bird-watching.
Next stop is the junction with Old Danube, 1km upstream from Crisan. There are several spartan pensions (pensiunes) in the village, all charging about 10 euros per person. Try Pensiune Gheorghe Silviu or Pensiune Pocora. There is also the DDBR’s Crisan Centre for Ecological Information & Education (Tel. 519 214; office at deltaturism dot ro), open 8am-4pm Tueday-Sunday, which features wildlife displays, a library and a video room. At the main Crisan ferry dock, ask about side trips to Mila 23 and Caraorman.
