Bucovina (Painted Monastery) tour guides that I recommend

Arranging for guide in these parts is really optimum, not only because it eliminates the sparse public transport issues, but because having a guide makes the difference between staring mindlessly at fabulous painted monasteries and learning detailed history about the fabulous painted monasteries. Furthermore, there’s all kinds of obscure, but worthwhile side trips they can tack on to a day of monastery tours (I don’t want to ruin the surprise!)

I’ve met all of the guides below (they’re all based out of Suceava) and can vouch for their knowledge and skills at guiding in the area. You should tell them that I sent you. I don’t know if that will help, but it sure can’t hurt.

Monica pulls double duty in Suceava, leading first rate monastery tours and running Moldavia’s only hostel; High Class Hostel in Suceava. Monica’s interminably good nature is infectious and the nuns treat her like a favorite daughter on every visit. And her soups are to die for.
