Moldova money and exchange rates
Moldovan leu (plural: lei ) come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 lei. There are coins for 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 bani (100 bani = 1 leu). ATMs are very common in Chisinau , but get pretty scarce around the rest of the country. Withdraw a stack of cash before leaving on extended stays in small towns or rural areas.
Banks like Eximbank will cash travelers cheques and give cash advances on major credit cards, however, both of these are virtually useless outside of Chisinau. Many hotels, restaurants and larger stores will accept credit cards, but again, be prepared with cash.
Prices in Moldova are often quoted in euros and US dollars, so come prepared with the current exchange rate for both.
