Hotel Amzei (Bucharest)

Leif’s take: I haven’t had the chance to visit this one yet, but my colleague did and loved the place, saying it was “restrained contemporary style, but everything about the place screams quality”. Let me know what you think.

Traian Grand Hotel (Iasi)

Web info: There are non smoking rooms, air conditioning, bathrobes, daily newspaper, desk in each of the hotel’s well-equipped rooms. For the comfort and convenience of guests, you’ll also find room service 24hr, elevator, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning, meeting facilities on-site.

Leif’s take: I’m a little shocked by the lackluster description they give themselves above. The multilingual staff here will make you feel at home in this elegant hotel, designed by Gustave Eiffel (yeah, that Eiffel, he went on to design that thing in Paris you may have heard of). The high-ceiling rooms are awash in old-world comfort, with large, modern bathrooms and cable internet.

Vulturul Negru Hotel (Oradea)

Web info: To make each guest’s stay comfortable, all rooms feature non smoking rooms, air conditioning, television, bathtub, shower. Room service 24hr, executive floor, elevator, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning are some of the extra comforts you’ll find at this Oradea hotel.

Leif’s take: Yet another victim of the country-wide trend to turn all busy and profitable budget hotels into elegant four star properties with three guests. Sigh. That said, every nook of this 1908 Art Nouveau building has been beautified with stained-glass windows, crystal chandeliers and Italian decor. Whether you’re a guest or not, the glass-ceilinged day bar should be visited for a cup of coffee and 30 minutes of sheer elegance.

The Gerald’s Hotel (Radauti)

Web info: All rooms have non smoking rooms, air conditioning, bathrobes, daily newspaper, desk as well as other amenities. Featuring room service 24hr, shops, elevator, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning, meeting facilities , this Radauti hotel is sure to make each guest’s trip an enjoyable one. Guests may take advantage of sporting or leisure activities such as gym/fitness facilities at this hotel.

Leif’s take: Oddly, Radauti is home to one of the nicest hotels in northern Romania. It’s not much to look at outside, but, inside is a first-rate business hotel, adorned in blond and dark wood furniture, with an international restaurant and bar. Amenities include a fitness room, free wi-fi, an excellent all-you-can-eat buffet lunch, great beds, mini-bars, panel TVs, and safes big enough for laptops.

Concordia Hotel (Targu Mures)

Web info: Whether on business or holiday, each of the 248 rooms at this 5-star property are designed help guests relax in comfort and style.

Leif’s take: London chic meets Transylvania. This 34-room hotel, one of Romania’s most surprising boutique hotels, offers stark, giant, stylish rooms with zebra-print chairs and framed fashion prints. Jet-setting Muresianos hang in the ground-floor restaurant and bar (which projects key football games onto a blank wall). There’s a fitness center with Jacuzzi and a glass-roofed pool.

Sighisoara Hotel (Sighisoara)

Web info: Whether on business or holiday, each of the 36 rooms at this 3-star property are designed help guests relax in comfort and style. Convenient location, a dedicated staff and first-rate facilities make this hotel a favorite among travelers.

Leif’s take: Tour groups seem to gravitate to this fine 29-room hotel with arched ceilings over cranberry carpets in faintly historic, mostly modern rooms. The basement wine cellar is a cavernous hang-out spot, as is the back courtyard terrace and beauty salon.

Hilde’s Residence (Gura Humorului)

Web info: To make each guest’s stay comfortable, all rooms feature non smoking rooms, bathrobes, hair dryer, in room safe, television, bathtub. To make each guest’s stay more complete, this Gura Humorului hotel offers shops, bar/pub, laundry service/dry cleaning, restaurant, room service.

Leif’s take: A nine-room place, with uniquely designed and named rooms, some with balconies. Very countryside boutique. It’s just off the main road in Gura Humorului, across from Pensiunea Lions. There’s a nice Romanian restaurant onsite.
